The Outlander - Diana Gabaldon
Well, whatever... I think this is billed as an "historical romance" - (probably correct) and I loved every last page of it (ringing in at over 600 pages). Great battle scenes, love scenes, scenes of intrigue and scenes of humour -- most of it set in the mid-1700's in Scotland. Also gave me a love of that scottish language - eh, wee laddie - ye ken?

Looking over this post, I just feel irritated with myself. It's a very very good read - nothing to be "embarrassed" about - I highly recommend it for those who don't mind novels that stretch into the 600-700 pages and more. What a great read; I will probably peruse it again in my lifetime. It's not Roth or Eggers, but Galbadon's a fantastic storyteller. She's not our to re-invent things; just tell a good story.
